Packaging & Digital Printing Highlights for PrintCity at Balkan Print Forum

The Seventh Balkan Print Forum held in Sofia, Bulgaria, October 18-19 proved that the current focus of the PrintCity Alliance on Packaging and Digital Printing trends & opportunities is highly topical.

In particular, the audience of over 180 people from 13 countries found the PrintCity Value Added Packaging (VAPack) initiative presentation by Rainer Kuhn, managing director of PrintCity to be of interest, with many interesting discussions and the opportunity to take away creative packaging print samples and tutorials.

The Balkan Print Forum was supported by PrintCity Alliance members manroland web systems, Océ, Baumüller, Kurz, Procemex, Sappi and UPM. The event was hosted by the Printing Industry Union of Bulgaria, manroland Bulgaria and a Bulgarian printing company.

Dr. Dimitar Rozalinov, Editor-in-Chief of the Package, Printing & Converting Magazine, Bulgaria, and Professor at the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy (UCTM), Sofia, stated, "I had many questions about packaging before the presentation. Successful ANJ PrintCity Workshop, Porto Alegre, Brazil

Over 30 members of the Associacão Nacional De Jornais (ANJ) attended a joint Workshop meeting organised with PrintCity at Zero Hora in Porto Alegre, Brazil in September.

Following an introduction to the Brazilian market by Ricardo Pedreira, the ANJ Executive Director, the main session was led by PrintCity members manroland web systems, Océ and Trelleborg. The Workshop focused on new business models and opportunities for newspapers in Latin America, plus an update on the latest Lean & Green industry thinking. After the meeting a tour of the press facilities at Zero Hora was followed by a dinner.

Ricardo Pedreira confirmed that the day had been very successful, commenting, “Our ANJ members found the Workshop with PrintCity members very useful and productive. Sharing information, opportunities and samples about value added printing, press productivity and lean & green good practice created a very positive discussion and learning experience for all.”

The Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC) has announced the award recipient of Positively Print, a print advocacy program designed to promote the power of print in today’s media mix. The 2012 awardee, PrintCity’s PRINT: SEEN! LEAN & GREEN publication, was recognized following the EXECUTIVE OUTLOOK Conference on October 6, the eve of GRAPH EXPO 2012, the year’s largest graphic communications exhibition and conference in the Americas. GRAPH EXPO 2012 runs from October 7-10, 2012, in Chicago’s McCormick Place.
