manroland AG - Swedish Pressgrannar AB buys REGIOMANOne of the world’s oldest newspaper printers invests in latest technology
Pressgrannar AB of Norrköping in the South-East Swedish province Östergötland opted in favor of a REGIOMAN that will produce in Linköping by the end of 2011. Pressgrannar AB is part of NTM (Norrköpings Tidningars Media AB), a fast-growing media company with several local newspapers as well as radio and TV stations all over Sweden. “NTM invests over 200 million Swedish Krona (about 21 million Euro) in a new printing plant. Our goal is to offer our advertising customers a full range of media, newspaper, television, internet, mobile, radio and more, a mix that has already proved very successful. Our operations are the natural media choice for advertisers in our market area,“ says Lennart Foss, CEO of NTM. “We believe strongly in the future of the printed newspaper and will continue to offer efficient solutions for our customers,” adds the Managing Director of Pressgrannar, Olof Z. Haeggström. Pressgrannar was founded on 1 May 2004, resulting from the merger of the printing plants from Norrköpings Tidningar and Östgöta Correspondenten, the region’s two largest morning papers. Norrköpings Tidningar is the oldest of Sweden’s papers still being published today. Founded in 1758 it is also among the world’s ten oldest newspapers. Featuring a speed of 75,000 copies per hour the REGIOMAN consists of six printing towers and six reel splicers as well as two folders. The printing system will be installed at the Linköping production site and is going to replace older presses. Next to different daily papers such as Norrköpings Tidningar, Västerviks-Tidningen, Östgöta Correspondenten, Folkbladet and International Herald Tribune it is going to print freesheets and commercial tabloids, too. manroland AG is the world’s second largest printing systems manufacturer and the world’s market leader in web offset. The group with its production sites in Offenbach, Augsburg, and Plauen employs almost 8,000 people and has annual sales of some Euro 1,7 billion with an export share of approximately 80 percent (fiscal year 2008). Webfed and sheetfed offset presses provide tailor-made solutions for publishing, commercial, and packaging printing – from brochures to newspapers with circulations running into the millions. A worldwide network of about 100 sales and service centers markets manroland’s products as well as process compliant system components and pressroom products. Web offset presses for newspapers and high-quality commercial printing of brochures, catalogs, magazines, supplements, and books are manufactured at the Augsburg site (founded 1845). manroland’s Plauen site (founded 1896) is renowned for newspaper presses and paper supply systems. The sheetfed press product range built in Offenbach (founded 1871) comprises system families in small, medium, large, and extra-large formats for commercial printing, posters, books and packaging. Some models are available with the revolutionary direct drive system. manroland is designing, planning, building, equipping, and commissioning sheetfed and web offset printing plants – from prepress through printing right up to finishing and offers added value with PRINTVALUE. manroland is a provider of customized 24/7 service and maintenance packages plus integrated services and training measures (printservices). The portfolio includes a certified range of pressroom products (printcom) as well as software products and workflow management systems (printnet). The group provides consultancy services covering all aspects of investment and building planning, organization, management, systems engineering and process optimization (printadvice).
