The PrintCity Alliance invites Brand Owners, Designers, Printers and Converters to attend its new Packaging Inspiration Forum on April 24/25 in Düsseldorf. Focused on Value Added Packaging (VAP) and the knowledge that ‘VAP Sells’, the event will have speakers from top organisations in the packaging industry. Importantly it will also include high value interactive sessions on opportunities, benefits, techniques, materials and far more. 

The event language will be German, and the agenda will include a main session with thought provoking presentations and several topical break-out sessions over 2 days.

PrintCity: Thank You Mr President…

Members of the PrintCity Alliance have a big ‘Thank You’ for Helmut (John) Dangelmaier, their President since 2001, when he steps down on December 31st, 2012. 

When he joined the Alliance it was in its early days following drupa 2000, and John played a leading role in guiding and helping grow all alliance worldwide activities and the PrintCity team. With more than 40 years in the Graphic Industry and experience of working within research organisations FOGRA and GATF, cross-industry organisations such as the Web Offset Champion Group, plus being President of MEGTEC Systems for 12 years, John Dangelmaier brought PrintCity unique industry experience.

John has represented PrintCity at International Conferences, Seminars, News Conferences and the Alliance Annual Congress, with authority, knowledge and good business advice.

For the eighth time in a row a full success

Its already the eight time that WEILBURGER Graphics GmbH which is established in the Franconian Gerhardshofen hosted the “Franconian Lacquer Specialties” on 25. October 2012. Once again the event was fully booked and more than sixty attendees followed the comprehensive programme. Under this year’s theme “Innovative finishing” the attendees can listen to presentations regarding chances and trends in the printing and packaging market as well as regarding health and fitness at work.

manroland sheetfed re-organization complete

manroland sheetfed, the German printing press builder, announced today that it has concluded negotiations with its workers council over the dismissal of 77 workers. The company announced its intentions in September and those dismissed will leave the company by 30th November, 2012. 

As part of the negotiations the dismissed employees have the opportunity of joining a government backed “transfer company”, which provides 80% of salary for up to 12 months and assistance finding alternative employment.

A spokesman for manroland said "the heavy restructuring which took place in January was very much a rough cut. Since then we have been fine tuning our processes and although it is unfortunate to have to let more people go, with these fine tuning measures the business is now very efficiently structured and we do not anticipate any further headcount reductions in the foreseeable future."

The company also announced that it is closing its nearby Mainhausen factory, which carries out packing and final dispatch of the company's presses. The spokesman said the 2.9 hectare site will be sold for housing development in due ...

Packaging & Digital Printing Highlights for PrintCity at Balkan Print Forum

The Seventh Balkan Print Forum held in Sofia, Bulgaria, October 18-19 proved that the current focus of the PrintCity Alliance on Packaging and Digital Printing trends & opportunities is highly topical.

In particular, the audience of over 180 people from 13 countries found the PrintCity Value Added Packaging (VAPack) initiative presentation by Rainer Kuhn, managing director of PrintCity to be of interest, with many interesting discussions and the opportunity to take away creative packaging print samples and tutorials.

The Balkan Print Forum was supported by PrintCity Alliance members manroland web systems, Océ, Baumüller, Kurz, Procemex, Sappi and UPM. The event was hosted by the Printing Industry Union of Bulgaria, manroland Bulgaria and a Bulgarian printing company.

Dr. Dimitar Rozalinov, Editor-in-Chief of the Package, Printing & Converting Magazine, Bulgaria, and Professor at the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy (UCTM), Sofia, stated, "I had many questions about packaging before the presentation. Successful ANJ PrintCity Workshop, Porto Alegre, Brazil

Over 30 members of the Associacão Nacional De Jornais (ANJ) attended a joint Workshop meeting organised with PrintCity at Zero Hora in Porto Alegre, Brazil in September.

Following an introduction to the Brazilian market by Ricardo Pedreira, the ANJ Executive Director, the main session was led by PrintCity members manroland web systems, Océ and Trelleborg. The Workshop focused on new business models and opportunities for newspapers in Latin America, plus an update on the latest Lean & Green industry thinking. After the meeting a tour of the press facilities at Zero Hora was followed by a dinner.

Ricardo Pedreira confirmed that the day had been very successful, commenting, “Our ANJ members found the Workshop with PrintCity members very useful and productive. Sharing information, opportunities and samples about value added printing, press productivity and lean & green good practice created a very positive discussion and learning experience for all.”

The Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC) has announced the award recipient of Positively Print, a print advocacy program designed to promote the power of print in today’s media mix. The 2012 awardee, PrintCity’s PRINT: SEEN! LEAN & GREEN publication, was recognized following the EXECUTIVE OUTLOOK Conference on October 6, the eve of GRAPH EXPO 2012, the year’s largest graphic communications exhibition and conference in the Americas. GRAPH EXPO 2012 runs from October 7-10, 2012, in Chicago’s McCormick Place.
