Swiss dealer appointed for Rollin printing blankets

Trelleborg has strengthened its distribution channels in Switzerland with the appointment of Chromos AG to handle sales and support of the Rollin range of blanket solutions in the sheet-fed, web offset and newspaper markets. The new agreement does not affect sales in Switzerland of Vulcan blankets, which continue to be sold by Manroland.

“The Rollin brand has an excellent reputation throughout Europe and we also heard very good reports from other distributors about the support provided by Trelleborg both to them and end users,” says Daniel Broglie who heads the offset department.  “Rollin is a perfect fit with our existing product portfolio and our strategy of representing leading brands.

An impressive operation

“I was impressed when I visited Trelleborg’s French factory in Cernay, where Rollin blankets are manufactured.  A huge amount of research is involved in bringing a blanket to market and walking around the facilities at Cernay certainly confirmed Trelleborg’s position as a leading global player in the blanket arena.  We are confident that the Rollin range has a very exciting, long term futu ...

manroland establishes a new Market Organization for Brazil

Latin America: manroland now directly active locally

Since May 2009 manroland do Brasil, a subsidiary company of manroland AG, has been responsible for sales of the entire manroland product range in Brazil and will very soon also be responsible for service of the range in Brazil and other Latin American countries. Franz von Fürstenberg, Managing Director of manroland do Brasil, is optimistic: “manroland has always been regarded in Latin America as a very powerful brand that stands for high-tech and the highest quality. Every day at the moment, and particularly in Brazil, customers welcome us and are very relieved. Therefore we are now building on the positive aspects of the past and offer products, services and consultancy which have already made manroland users successful in other markets. Various customers that have products from our competitors want to be looked after by manroland for both webfed and sheetfed presses which is a clear indication that our profile in the marketplace has been much too low in recent times. We are about to rapidly and noticeably change this and will be placing special emphasis on service.” ...

TRADING UPDATE IN RESPECT OF DEBT REFINANCING AND BOND ISSUE

This notice does not constitute an offer to sell or the solicitation of an offer to buy securities

Sappi is issuing this trading update in connection with the capital markets transaction that it announced today and the ongoing syndication of a new secured revolving credit facility and a new secured OeKB term loan facility. Market conditions remained weak in the quarter in all our major markets. Sales volumes for the group were similar to the prior quarter. Prices realised were under pressure in most regions. For the quarter ended June 2009 we expect to report improved operating results, excluding special items, compared to the quarter ended March 2009 for our European business, which we expect to return to profitability and for our North American business, as a result of synergy achievements in Europe, and cost and input price reductions. In addition the North American business expects to report the benefit of alternative fuel credits in the range of US$30 – US$40 million. Our Southern African business was impacted by the strengthening of the Rand relative to the US Dollar, weak domestic demand and low pulp prices, which we expect will result in a loss before special items for the quarter for the region. ...

PrintersLounge - inauguration of new on-line network for global printing and media industry

PrintersLounge starts public beta version

Dillingen/Saar, Germany, July 20 2009 –  For a few days now, in the form of the PrintersLounge, a new, comprehensive, globally oriented on-line portal for the printing and media sector has been under way. The PrintersLounge was developed by D&S – Dort und Schmitt – of Dillingen in the Federal German state of Saarland. Alexander Dort of D&S on the PrintersLounge: "The idea of providing a portal of this kind for the entire printing and media industry was conceived as far back as three years ago. At that time, there were only a few minor portals worldwide which were oriented towards this particular branch of industry, and it had been clear for a long time that the printing industry, the mother of mass communication, was not managing to stay a step ahead of the other communication media going into the twenty-first century. As we see it, the reasons for this were that the companies in the sector had been focusing much too much on their own medium and were much too afraid of – and to some extent perhaps lacked interest in – the new media which were, in the meantime, ...

Key patent for the LOTUS SF laminating machine from Steinemann Technology also confirmed in the opposition proceedings

Patented rear-edge detection rules out inaccurate cutting

A few days ago, the European Patent Office rejected in its entirety the opposition filed by a German company against a patent of Steinemann Technology AG, St. Gallen/Switzerland, thereby underlining the technologically leading role of the Swiss manufacturer in the laminating sector. As a result, the patent entitled 'Method and device for cutting a laminate' - granted to Steinemann Technology AG by the European Patent Office on 22 September 2004 (Patent Bulletin 2004/39) - continues to remain in unrestricted force.

The patent essentially includes the claim that "the cutting points are continuously and precisely detected, before lamination, by an edge sensor at the top, rear edge of the sheets, and the cutting function for the film is performed on the basis of the precisely detected edge signals" (excerpt from Claim 1, EP 1 282 510 B1). In view of this patent, Steinemann Technology alone has the right to offer a rear-edge sensor for detecting the cutting points in a shingle stream of consecutive sheets before the laminating operation. In its letter, the Opposition Division of the European Patent Office also expressed 'major doubts' regarding the 'pri ...
